Through meditating I noticed different, almost indescribable sensations. A grounding sense of gravity, a breathtaking sense of space, a moving energy, a joy at the heart and a comfortable warmth. Then I came across the Bon Buddhist teachings on the 5 elements and applied these teachings to my experiences. I spent time going through each element exploring what they could be, how they could be encountered. I painted a small picture of each element as I internally investigated these sensations. This painting represents the unification of the five internal elements.

If I was Leonard Nimoy

If I was Leonard Nimoy I would rush about the place,
I would hold my long pointy fingers in front of me as I sprang from door to door,
My pointy boots deftly propelling me from shadow to shadow my pointy ears sleek in the dark,
I would wear an elf’s cloak like a slender bony wraith and be like Pan in the woods.

If I was Leonard Nimoy, ceaselessly running here and there,
I would fondle things, peruse things, and look under things and open cupboards,
A real nosey sneak, climbing through windows and going through draws,
I’d sniff other people’s belongings with my long sensitive nose,
trying on peoples clothes, reading their diaries, wearing their shoes.

If I was Leonard Nimoy I would be a real cheeky swine,
Quickly rushing about, hands in front, cloak flapping behind,
Stooping like a thief in the dark, arranging dinner dates, making phone calls,
Then I would vocally abuse people and adroitly cut them down.

If I was Leonard Nimoy I would use my Vulcan logic to orally molest people,
I would line people up with my stone hard glare and coldly hurl verbal perversions at them
Willowy fingers, hunched shoulders, flat black hair, pointy ears, spikey shoes, cloak fluttering behind.
Expressionless, cool, thin and dexterous, I’d cause a right awkward mess behind the scenes.

Leonard Nimoy was famous for playing Spock in the “Star Trek” series. He was an accomplished artist, expressing himself through music, poetry and perhaps best of all photography. Nimoy published numerous collections of his poems, just before he died he wanted to share the following poem:-

Human Overpopulation

Every major problem you can think of affecting humanity is caused by overpopulation. There are two solutions to this:- either we will keep growing and the natural world will be utterly overtaken and destroyed and our lives will become completely synthetic. Or nature (which includes human activity) will balance the problem out by getting rid of most/all of us in some way.

Problems Include:-

Loss of Fresh Water
Depletion of Natural Resources
Less Freedom, More Restrictions
More Intensive Farming Practices
Creation of GMO foods
Increased Global Warming and Climate Change
Elevated Crime Rate
Racism
Destruction of Rural Beauty
Religious intolerance
War
Species Extinction
Increased Habitat Loss
Quality of life in Fastest Growing Countries
Mortality Rate in Fastest Growing Countries
Increased Emergence of New Epidemics and Pandemics

Population growth is directly linked to the type of energy we use. The more easily available and powerful the energy the more we can grow and expand. You can trace this throughout history, the invention of the steam engine sky rocketed the population. Once we sussed out how to use oil the population exploded. If the oil ran out all production and growth would stop and the population would slowly decrease.

No energy is as cheap or as effective as oil - and oil makes everything. Man! You wouldn't believe how much everything is made by oil! Plastic for a start, then all machinery, all technology, computers, clothes, food production, travel, etc, everything is oil.

We will definitely, definitely, definitely, use the oil up too! - humans are greedy and driven to expand. It will probably happen soon too. The more oil we use the greater the population- the more oil we use.

No kind of human intervention can stop the inevitable- You cannot reverse what is happening. Are China and India going to suddenly stop their growth? The only way we can continue to grow is if we find another energy source that does everything oil can do. But even then we will have big problems - for one we will have to feed the expanding population, which will only be possible through GMO foods. If we could continue to grow we would end up becoming completely synthetic. The best case scenario would be something like Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. What is more likely is that nature will re-balance our population.

The population would be brought into balance if the oil ran out, or if we had a nice big nuclear war (I see a nuclear war as an act of nature), some kind of huge natural catastrophe like a comet, or some kind of horrific plague.

I hope beyond hope that the oil runs out in the next ten years. If that happens we will be plunged back into the 1800's. Which would slowly reinstate natural farming techniques and healthier cleaner living. O
r another solution is everyone turns gay and stops wanting kids. Maybe homosexuality is a natural evolutionary mechanism that emerges in a species when it grows too big?

The BFG, New Movie

Just watched Spielberg's "The BFG"...Good special effects but as usual arrogant movie makers manage to take the subtle and the sacrosanct and turn them into the superfluous and the sacrilegious. If you can't write your own story what on earth makes you think you can improve on someone else's?

It's not just that they absolutely butchered the story and the characters - it's that they changed how the BFG spoke and what he said. Why? Is there some kind of agenda here? First it was the Lord Of The rings - The best fantasy story ever written reduced to facile fight scenes for the masses - and now the BFG. Is there some-kind of subconscious subliminal propaganda going on here? Is it Americanization? Whatever it is it's awful.

Magical Paintings

During this summer (2016) I made a bout 10 really weird paintings - this is one of them .

If I stare at a texture or a pattern I can imagine all kinds of animals, people landscapes etc.

I made a few heavily textured paintings and then stared at them for hours allowing images to appear, I kept trying to paint in the visions I would see - it was really difficult to do, This is one of the results - in this one I kept seeing Birds, leaves, flowers and little elemental beings -

I will try to post the other ones soon.

Titus Lucretius Carus

No single thing abides, but all things flow.

Fragment to fragment clings; the things thus grow

Until we know and name them. By degrees

They melt, and are no more the things we know.

Globed from the atoms, falling slow or swift

I see the suns, I see the systems lift

Their forms ; and even the systems and their suns

Shall go back slowly to the eternal drift.

Thou too, O Earth—thine empires, lands and seas

Least, with thy stars, of all the galaxies,

Globed from the drift like these, like these thou too

Shalt go. Thou art going, hour by hour, like these.

Nothing abides. Thy seas in delicate haze

Go off ; those mooned sands forsake their place;

And where they are shall other seas in turn

Mow with their scythes of whiteness other bays.

From De rerum natura (On the Nature of Things)

Titus Lucretius Carus (c. 99 BC – c. 55 BC)

Apollo and the 9 Muses

The ancient Greek religion and mythology is as deep as any eastern philosophy, it contains pretty much everything that is in Hinduism, Buddhism and the Tao Te Ching. The language is mysterious and the style of preserving the sacred teachings and imparting them to others was very unique and special.

Apollo is one of the 12 most important Olympian Gods of the Greek religion. These gods function on many levels and represent many different things. They are at once real energetic forces of deity and at the same time embodiment's of laws of nature and Sacred truths.

Apollo is the sun, the literal sun and the sacred sun. Outwardly he is the actual sun in the sky and rules over the celestial realm, embodying the sacred light that brings all manifestation into being. Apollo is the sign of Leo in the Zodiac, again representing the ruling sun. He is the creative life giving aspect of Zeus. He is also the light within man, the divine spark, the sun within man, the creative force that drives us to make things and strive for new information and skills. The joy and enthusiasm one feels in ones heart whilst engaged in some creative project. Apollo is often depicted with the 9 Muses.

I was puzzled for a while to see the deeper meaning behind the muses. Why should the sun be divided into nine? Why should Apollo be followed by nine muses? It seemed to me to be creative in nature. I think maybe the muses have something to do with octaves. In a lot of Greek sculptures they are seen grouped into three. Maybe three represent a full Octave. Therefore the nine represent the progression of three full octaves

Maybe what we have in the nine muses is a symbolic representation of two important laws of nature. The law of three forces:- active, passive and neutral, and the law of octaves. All creative processes are directly influenced by the three forces, these forces manifest everywhere. The law of octaves tells us that all things created by the three forces are musically ordered.

The three muses representing the passive octave might be Urania the muse of astronomy, Clio the muse of history and Melpomene who was the muse of tragedy.  The three muses representing the neutral octave might be Terpsichore the muse of dance, Euterpe who was the muse of music and Thalia the muse of comedy. The three muses representing the active and higher octave might be Polyhymnia the muse of sacred poetry, Erato who was the muse of love poetry and Calliope who was the muse of epic poetry.

Another aspect of the muses that occurred to me was the nature of each muse. Each muse represents something to do with the arts. I couldn’t figure this out for a while. I mean why isn’t there a muse for painting, drawing or sculpture? But then I realized the muses don’t represent the different art forms. They represent all of the possible subject matters that an artist can work with. All paintings, poems, stories, or sculptures will fall into one or more of the categories of subject that the 9 represent.

So Apollo, amongst other things, represents the creative force within man. The nine muses explain how this creative force works and the different areas within which it functions.
